Position summary:
The School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa is seeking highly motivated and experienced applicants for a Research Coordinator or Research Associate appointment in infectious disease and vaccine epidemiology research. The successful applicant will primarily support an ongoing project funded by the Canadian Immunization Research Network (CIRN) with the aim of assessing the barriers to pneumococcal vaccination and testing an educational intervention to increase vaccine literacy, willingness, and uptake among older adults in Canada. In addition, the researcher will lead and support the planning and conduction of evidence synthesis projects related to various topics related to infectious diseases, with particular focus on tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance. In this role, the candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Giorgia Sulis (www.giorgiasulis.com) at the School of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Ottawa, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with a range of experts in Canada and abroad.
Responsibilities:
- Help managing project timelines, progress, deliverables, and milestones.
- Contribute to discussions in an interdisciplinary team, including interactions with community partners as required in the project.
- Lead and contribute to the implementation of the project at all stages, including preparation of ethics applications, development of survey questionnaires and other study materials, and conduction of data analysis.
- Develop research protocols for evidence synthesis projects.
- Lead and contribute to the conduction of scoping and systematic reviews of the literature, including title/abstract screening, full-text screening, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, and quantitative and qualitative data synthesis as appropriate.
- Lead and contribute to the preparation of grant applications, reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Prepare and deliver presentations at scientific meetings.
- Any other duties as required in this project and other related research activities.
Necessary requirements:
- Graduate degree in epidemiology, health research methodology, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated training and/or relevant working experience in infectious disease research.
- Experience in study management in an academic research environment.
- Experience with clinical or health services research projects.
- Proficiency with at least one statistical analysis software (Stata, R, SAS).
- Knowledge of computer software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral, in English.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with implementation of health-related educational interventions.
- Subject-matter knowledge of major infectious disease topics, with particular focus on tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance.
- Research experience in one or more of the following disciplines would be an asset: vaccinology, infectious diseases, health education and promotion.
- Bilingual (French/English).
Contract details:
This full-time position (35 hours/week) is grant-funded, available immediately and tenable for 1 year. Preference will be given to applicants who can begin within a short time window. There is a possibility of renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and funding availability. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience (range: $60,000-65,000 plus benefits). To be considered eligible, applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada must hold a valid work permit at the time of the application.
